Are automatic updates required?

Yes, automatic updates are a mandatory feature of the OWS platform. Starting in February 2025, Automatic Software Updates will be enabled by default for all OWS users. This ensures that your devices consistently receive the latest security patches, features, and performance enhancements.

Can I disable automatic updates?

Automatic updates cannot be disabled. However, a delay function is available for select license types. Learn more here.

How are software updates applied to my recorders?

Software updates will be applied to your devices in accordance with your policy configurations.

Can I pause automated updates during the holiday season?

OpenEye limits automatic software updates to only maintenance updates from November 15th through January 1st each year.

Where can I see which devices have updated?

The device update history and activity can be found in your policy logs. Learn more here.

Can I choose which devices get updated automatically?

While all devices must adhere to OpenEye’s automatic update policy, policies can be applied to specific Locations, Location Groups and Recording Devices. Users have the option to choose whether your devices receive the Recommended or Optional release version.

Can I rollback the software on my device?

We do not have a rollback function at this time.

How often are automatic updates released?
  • OpenEye releases software updates for different devices on varying schedules to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • OpenEye’s Cloud Cameras receive 10-12 software updates annually.
  • Major software releases are released for recorders approximately 4 times per year per release level.

What can cause a software update policy to pause?

A software update policy can be paused for up to 5 days if the failure threshold is reached. Learn more here.
