Traffic Count

Gain insights into pedestrian traffic by location thanks to OWS AI line crossing analytics to optimize staffing, enhance security and make other decisions that directly improve your bottom line.
Camera Configuration

Traffic count utilizes the Line Crossing AI analytic. The configuration is nearly identical across cloud cameras and IP cameras. To begin with, navigate to the analytics tab for the camera.

  1. From OWS, go to Management > Locations > Locations.

  1. Select the location with the device you want to configure.

NOTE: If you are configuring an IP camera, select the location, then select the recorder to display the device list.

  1. Select the camera from the device list.

NOTE: If you are configuring an IP camera, select Go to Configuration.

  1. From the Analytics tab, enable Line Crossing.
  2. Click Setup next to Line Crossing.
  3. Select the Add Line plus sign if it is not selected, then click to place the starting point for the line, and click again to place the endpoint.

NOTE: If utilizing traffic count, ensure the lines and arrows are set in the direction to count when a person or vehicle enters the area.

  1. Check either Person or Vehicle for Detection type.
  2. Check Record on event detection to automatically begin recording when a line in a region is crossed.
  3. To have each line cross create its own event, select Enable discrete object tracking events.
  4. If utilizing traffic count, enable the option for the Traffic Count feature and select Enter.

NOTE: To also track when a person or vehicle leaves an area, click the plus sign above the camera preview to create a new region. Then repeat the above steps under the new region but for when persons or vehicles Exit the area.

Location Configuration

Once you have configured the cameras, the location can be configured to match your organization's times and restrictions.

  1. From OWS, go to Management > Locations > Locations.
  2. Select Traffic Count.

Here you can see the current location's traffic count and estimated occupancy if your traffic count has been previously configured.

  1. Set the Maximum Occupancy field if you want to be alerted when the total estimated occupancy nears the entered amount.

NOTE: This setting can be used in conjunction with Occupancy alerts.

  1. Set the Reset Occupancy at: field to have the system set estimated occupancy to 0 at the given time.

  2. If the count is off, enter a number in Set Current Occupancy to: and click Update to correct the number displayed in Current Occupancy.

NOTE: The values displayed in Traffic Count are not affected when Current Occupancy is updated.

  1. Click + Cameras.
  2. Click the Add button Green Plus button.png next to each device you'd like to be included in the Alert.
  3. Click Select when finished.

NOTE: If the camera added has not had line crossing configured for traffic count, you may see a notification. From the list, you can click on the camera's options to configure the camera.
