Configuring Port Forwarding on a Router

The directions provided for configuring a router are generic. If you are not familiar with the process of port forwarding, consult your router's manual. Other references that may be useful are the manufacturer’s website, the manufacturer’s support line, or PortForward.com.

  1. Connect to the router through its interface (typically a web interface).
  2. Login to the router with an administrative ID.
  3. Access the Port Forwarding section in the router (some may list this as Port Triggering, Pinhole, Firewall Forwarding, or other terms).
  4. For Apex recorders, the following default ports will need to be forwarded to the internal IP address of the recorder:
    1. HTTP: 80
    2. HTTPS: 443

Configuring Multiple Recorders

If multiple recorders need to be configured within a single network and a direct connection to them from an outside location is wanted, the recorders will need to be configured with unique ports.

For example:

Recorder #1 is configured to use ports 80 and 443

Recorder #2 could be configured to use ports 8080 and 4443
